LOCATION<\/strong><\/p>\n

R\u00fcgen Island is located off the northeastern coast of Meklenburg \u2013 the West Pomeranian Region of Germany. It is conveniently located close to the main German\u2013 Swedish ferry connection. Kitesurfing hotspots are dotted all around the coast of the island (see the map) and windsurfers can enjoy a full variety of winds. The geographical location of the federal country Meklenburg-Vorpommern in Germany is: 54\u00b025\u2032N\u00a013\u00b022\u2032E (central point).<\/p>\n

WIND HOTSPOTS AROUND R\u00dcGEN<\/strong><\/p>\n

Wind hotspots are located around the whole island and this allows surfers to get the most out of multi-directional winds and benefit from different conditions. Surfers usually plan their day strategically based on the local wind forecasts. R\u00fcgen Island hotspots are spaced relatively closely together so moving from one location to the next shouldn\u2019t take more than an hour by car. Most of the surfing spots are easily accessible and have white narrow beaches and shallow waters; indeed, many surfers frequently report flat waters. Spring and autumn are great surfing seasons just like the summer, but with stronger winds. Many spots are used for learning to surf and beginners\u2019 sessions (e.g. Suhrendorf, Wiek, Thiesow etc.). When the easterly wind picks up, the Neu Murkan hotspot can be a real treat for the more experienced surfer. R\u00fcgen\u2019s hotspots are mostly used by German and Polish surfers.<\/p>\n

ATTRACTIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n

The whole island of R\u00fcgen is a beautiful natural area with diverse coasts, ranging from yellow beaches to white chalk cliffs, and many lagoons and shallow waters. Most of the island is richly forested and is home to Jasmund National Park, where you can indulge in nature sightseeing, biking, walking etc. There are a couple of interesting museums (like Ocean Aquarium) and places of curiosity (Binz holiday house \u2013 the longest in Germany). Fine dining experiences and a range of accommodation can be found in abundance here, especially before and after the high season in the summer (July-August). There are some excellent bike routes on the island too.<\/p>\n
