LOCATION

Mörrum River’s natural beauty can be explored by fishing, kayak rafting or by hiking. The river is a key destination for royal salmon, and as a result there is a hub of fishing clubs and facilities located a couple kilometres up from the mouth of the river in the township of Mörrum, which is about 7 kilometres west of nearby Karlshamn City in Blekinge Region, southern Sweden. The town can be accessed by either road or rail. For those looking to fly in, there is Ronneby Airport just 40 kilometres away. There are ferry connections to southern Sweden from Germany (Sassnitz – Trelleborg), Poland (Gdynia – Karlskrona) and Lithuania (Klaipeda- Karlshamn). The fishing offices are located in Mörrum, geographical location: 56°11′N 14°44′E.

FISHING IN MÖRRUM RIVER

The Mörrum is considered to be one of the most beautiful rivers in Sweden. It is 185 kilometres long and begins at Ansen Lake, located in the Kronoberg county. King Valdemar II deemed the river so beautiful and such a significant source of fishing that in 1231 he declared it a source of fishing for royal privilege only. The river is very clean – it is surrounded by green areas, mainly forests. Its characteristics change from quite narrow flow with strong current to flat broad shallow waters, that are rich in royal salmon (Atlantic), sea trout and smaller fish. Typically, the “catch and release” principle is used, but the keeping of one fish a day is allowed. The whole area around the river has a calm and relaxing atmosphere and is a perfect place to go on a hiking trip.

ATTRACTIONS

The county of Blekinge is one of the smallest regions of Sweden at only 3,000 square kilometres. The Blekinge archipelago is the starring feature of the county and consists of over 800 islands. As there are more than 1,000 lakes and 12 paved streams here, with natural beach bays and natural harbours, Blekinge is a perfect destination for anybody who loves fishing. It’s also an amazing spot for hiking and wilderness lovers as the region is covered in untamed forests. There are many biking routes, hiking trails and opportunities to go canoeing and sailing on the calm waters. Karlshamn and Karlskrona – the biggest cities in the region – offer numerous attractions, such as museum visits, festivals etc.
