OLAND ISLAND BIKING

From Mörbylånga the best route is up the western side of the island, to Borgholm – the capital of Öland. It starts form Haga Park campsite and leads to the north near the coast. After a couple of kilometres the route reaches Färjestaden – the bike ferry port to Kalmar, next it leads past the bridge and north to Ralla and finally to Borgholm – the capital town of the island. Here, there are an old castle’s ruins and the residence of the current King of Sweden. The way back from Borgholm to Mörbylånga is mostly on the eastern part of the island and allows you to reach a couple of plains and see Stora Alvaret.

ATTRACTIONS

Öland offers many attractions that can enrich your stay on the island. The obvious number one is a visit to Stora Alvaret, a limestone plain rich with marine fossils that was formed 500 million years ago and is slowly emerging from the Baltic Sea after the receding of glaciers. In the past, the island was home to prehistoric men with Gettlinge Gravefield being the most explored. There are many castles and churches on Oland, including the present Swedish Royal Residence. It’s the perfect place to combine sightseeing with biking tours and take advantage of the broad long white beaches on the east coast.
