12. Eriksberg vilt & natur – wildlife sightseeing

LOCATION

Eriksberg Vilt & Natur is a wildlife park located in Eriksberg in the Blekinge Region of Sweden, near the city of Karlshamn. The Park is easily accessible by air (nearby Ronneby Airport), by road (with many connections from southern Sweden) and by ferry lines from Germany (Sassnitz – Trelleborg), Poland (Gdynia-Karlskrona) and Lithuania (Klaipeda- Karlshamn). It is about 2 hour’s drive from Copenhagen. The park’s geographical location is:  56°18′N 15°00′E.

ERIKSBERG WILDLIFE OBSERVATION

Eriksberg Wildlife Park & Nature Reserve is the largest Swedish wildlife park, where you can observe Scandinavian animals in their natural environment.

The park is more than 1,300 hectares, 400 of which is water. The visitors can explore the 925-hectare Eriksberg Safari Park (the biggest in Scandinavia) which is home to different species of deer (including fallow and Père David’s), wild boars, mouflons and European bison. In the summer the park area attracts more than 1,500 species. In 1938 the Eriksberg Park was purchased by the well-known nature filmmaker and writer Bengt Berg and changed into a nature reserve. The inhabitants of the park are the result of experiments with deer breeding on the park’s farm. The present farm possesses buildings erected over the past five centuries. Two main Eriksberg Park activities include a guided tour of the Park in a safari vehicle and European Bison walks.

ATTRACTIONS

At just 3,000 sq. kilometres, the county of Blekinge is one of the smallest regions of Sweden. A significant part of the county is Blekinge archipelago which consists of more than 800 islands. A tranquil area, the numerous natural bays and harbours that have been formed here allow for excellent fishing. The county has over 1,000 lakes, 12 paved streams and mainly consists of beautiful wild woodlands. The region has numerous organised hiking trails, biking routes and there are also opportunities to canoe or boat on the calm waters. The big cities of the region, Karlshamn and Karlskrona, offer cultural attractions including museums and social events (e.g. rock festivals). The region nature specifics prevails. (?
