LOCATION
Trzebiatów is located on the Rega River, about 8 km from the Baltic Sea, 35 km from Kamień Pomorski and 120 km from Szczecin. The Old Town, located in the bend of the river, is located on a hill surrounded by defensive walls. SCENIC CHARACTER
Over 700 years of the city’s history is visible in every corner of it, reminding about important events and related persons. From the point of view of the Griffin Route, the most important place to visit is the Chapel of St. The Spirit, in which in 1534 a Sejm of the Pomeranian states was held. It is here that the Pomeranian dukes decided to implement the reformation and adopt Lutheranism as a religion prevailing in Pomerania. Pałac nad Młynówką is a monument of particularly high historical value in Trzebiatów. Its origins date back to the 13th-century when a house was built here for Duchess Anastasia, the widow of Bogusław I. After her death, the building was rebuilt for the needs of the Norbertine monastery. After the introduction of the Reformation in Pomerania in 1534, the monastery buildings became the property of the Pomeranian dukes, and after the death of Bogusław XIV (the last prince of the Griffins dynasty) and after the Thirty Years‘ War the palace passed into the hands of Brandenburg. In the rebuilt palace there are relics of the former Norbertine monastery and the princely residence. Today’s palace is the seat of the Trzebiatowski Center of Culture and Museum. The institution cherishes the memory of the former inhabitants of this palace – the Duchess of Pomerania Anastasia and the Duchess of the Pomerania Zofia (widow of Philip II).
ATTRACTIONS
Trzebiatów is a multicultural city – it is a city of four religions: Evangelical, Catholic, Orthodox and Greek Catholic. Walking through the streets of Trzebiatów, it is worth paying attention to the 17th-century sgraffito depicting the famous Hansken elephant, the same one Rembrandt immortalized in the painting „Adam and Eve“. Due to its layout of streets and preserved monuments, the city has a specific, captivating climate. At the turn of July and August in Trzebiatów, the „Groats Festival“ takes place. A place that is also worth visiting is the Church of Motherhood of the Blessed Virgin Mary, who often visit couples wishing to have children. Through the city runs the European Cultural Route The Way of St. James.
