LOCATION
Ludwigslust Castle is hidden in Mecklenburg countryside, in the town of Ludwigslust, 40 km south of Schwerin, in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany, GPS 53°33′N 11°50′E.

ATRACTION DESCRIPTION
This splendid baroque palace, with situated in an extensive park full of avenues, cascades, canals and water jumps was built between 1772 and 1776 by court architect Johann Joachim Busch for Frederick, Duke of Mecklenburg- Schwerin. It was a baroque urban complex. The floor plan of the palace is E-shaped, with the central block higher than the rest of the building. There are monumental columns, large mirrors, magnificent crystal chandeliers and the restored parquet flooring, with plenty of painters’ works of Matthieu, Findorff, Suhrlandt, sculptures of Jean-Antoine Houdon, porcelain from Meissen, Hamburg silver and art chamber objects and ivory works. The 120-hectare area of the castle creates the largest park in Mecklenburg. The oldest part of the park was created around 1730. The castle and its surroundings are full of surprises. Around the park, tourists can discover the fountains, two mausoleums and the Swiss House, a Stone Bridge built in 1780 and fast-flowing water in the long canal.
