SCENIC CHARACTER

Barth situated between the sea and the land attracts people with the legend of the sunken legendary golden city of Vineta. Barth was an important trade centre centuries ago and used to be the residence of the dukes of Pomerania. Its good location attracts many people. Restored town houses, medieval alleyways and old buildings, especially the cloister-like Aristocratic Ladies’ Convent and St Mary’s Church (Sankt Marien Kirche) in the gothic brick style, staying in the redesigned market square, link the past and the present. You may go through the original town gate (the gate of the dyke) which was built in the 14thcentury and is 35 metres high. The quay and the promenade in the city port invite you to explore and go for a walk.

ATTRACTIONS

There are some restaurants, cafes and a tourist information centre. The port is an excellent place for sports boats and yachts. Sightseeing flights can be flown from the airport. If you like legends, you should visit the Vineta Museum. A very convenient geographic location makes Barth a good place for people who like water sports, besides bicycle hikes and horse riding. Good to visit all year round.
