LOCATION
Oland is one of the largest Swedish island. The area is about 1342 km. It’s also the longest island Sweden. It’s length is about 137 km. The island is situated in the south eastern Sweden, in Kalmar County. The biggest town on the island is Borgholm. It’s population is about 3 thousands citizens. The Oland island is communicated with the continental Sweden with Oland Bridge. The best way to get there is by car.
1. Oland’s windmills
SCENIC CHARACTER
Oland has everything what people seek traveling to Sweeden. There are green landscapes, tiny and colorful houses and of course windmills. This experience is complemented by rich history, pre-Christian cromlechs and many other ruins. Visitor should plan one or two days.
ATTRACTIONS
The first attraction is the Oland Bridge itself. It is 6072 meter long. That makes it one of the longest is Sweden. Near the Borgholm town, there is a castle, which unfortunately burn down in the beginning of XIX century. The ruins are still monumental, and gives a glimpse of the former greatness. Another important place connected to history of the island is called Eketorp , it is archeological site and an open air museum. In fact there is a whole reconstructed settlement.
