ATRACTION DESCRIPTION
The castle is situated in breathtaking nestled in a picturesque lake and parkland. In the past the castle was the residence of the princes and the Grand Dukes of Mecklenburg. It is one of the finest historicist architecture in Europe. The first reports of Schwerin Castle are dated on the end of Xth century. According to legends, a fairytale fortress is haunted by a friendly ghost called Petermännchen. A leprechaun figure with a lantern, a sword and a bunch of keys was supposed to punish thieves and intruders with jokes, plagues, night tortures and forced to flee and reward honest people. In 2007, the Schwerin Castle appeared on a 2-euro coin because of the inclusion of the upper house of the German parliament in November 2006 by Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
