At the local harbour remind on the 100-year tradition of ferry services to Sweden and Northern Europe. The international ferry port and the commercial port moved to another location nearby outside the settlement area (this place is called Mukran). It is the easternmost deep water port of Germany.

ATTRACTIONS

Sassnitz is the gateway to the Jasmund National Park and the fishermen harbour attracts tourists by its maritime flair. The harbour area is protected by the longest outer mole in Europe with a length of 1450 meters. Here start the boat trips to have a nice view on the unique chalk cliffs.

Due to the high cliffs a huge suspension bridge (274-metre) for pedestrians only connects the center of the town with the harbour. A Fishing and Harbour Museum documents the history of the town.
