LOCATION

Palanga is located on the northern part of the Lithuanian Baltic coast 30 km from Klaipeda. The recommended biking route is Palanga – Klaipeda with different variants. Palanga is located 320 km from Vilnius, 280 km from Riga and 170 kms from Kalingrad. Palanga- Gdańsk distance is 620 km surrounding Russian Kaliningrad Region and 330 km though the region (it includes ferry to Curonian Spit and 2 ex-EU border crossings). Klaipeda has hot two ferry connections: Kiel- Klaipeda (from Germany) and Karlshamn – Klaipeda (from Sweden). Palanga has got its own regional airport. Geographical location of Palanga: 55°55′N 21°04′E.

 

PALANGA-KLAIPEDA REGION BIKING

The bike trip starts from the northern Palanga and goes through the city, through parks, then going south to the Vydmantai village. The village landmarks are the tall Wind Park Installations. Next the route will lead through the pinewoods, the former lifeguard station in Nemirseta, Plaze Lake. The route will pass a fishing village of Karkle. Between Karkle and Village Giruliai there is a sector of one km cliff with the top place called Dutchman‘s Cap. Nearly the whole bike route is located in the Seaside Regional Park with the relatively little changed landscape. When approaching Klapieda the bikers can use numerous bike routes in the city and finish their trip in the sea harbor or historical center.

ATTRACTIONS

Palanga and the nearby Klaipeda are popular coastal cities with two different characters. Main attractions of Palanga include: sea pier, long broad sandy beaches, culinary attractions, different working fountains, cultural events, unusual museums (of dogs, of illusions). Palanga is a resort town with relaxing atmosphere, but crowded in top season (July-August). Klaipeda is a Hanseatic city, huge Baltic Sea port, host of universities with typical big city attractions like museums, culture centers etc. Nearby is the Curonian Spit which is a National park with enormous dunes, long broad beaches and places for sun bathing. Tourist can observe birds and other wild animals (deer).
