ATRACTION DESCRIPTION
Dargun Ruins were at the beginning of their history a castle, then a Cistercian abbey and finally a Renaissance palace in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany. The monastery was founded in XII th century The abbey church was converted into a Gothic hall church in the XIIIth century. The monastery was converted into a palace by Duke Johann Albrecht I of Mecklenburg in XVIth century. In the second part of XIXth century, the first agricultural college in Mecklenburg took up residence in the building. It was completely destroyed by fire in the final days of World War II.. Part of the building houses the information bureau and town library. The covered nave has become a stage for cultural events. It is open to the public and numerous events are held there. There is also an extensive park around the building with 300-year-old yew trees.
