LOCATION
Wolin is a Polish island on the Baltic Sea just off the Polish coast. Administratively it belongs to the West Pomeranian Voivodeship. The island is separated from the island of Usedom by the Strait of Świna and from mainland by the Strait of Dziwna and Szczecin Lagoon. However, it is well communicated with mainland with bridges and railway. Trains cross the whole island – from the Wolin town on the east to the Świnoujście town on the west. Car ride from Szczecin – the capital of the West Pomeranian Voivodeship – takes only one hour.
ATTRACTIONS
Wolin Island is the largest and the most famous Polish island with the highest cliffs in Poland stretching for over 15 kilometers. Beautiful landscape spread from the Gosań and Kawcza Góra viewpoints. From here you have a fantastic view of the golden sandy beaches and the blue Baltic Sea. In the central part of the island there is the Wolin Lake District and the Wolin National Park, where you can watch the wisents and the white-tailed eagles living in a closed reserve. Of all beautiful towns on the island Wolin is a must-see with the Gothic St. Nicholas cathedral and the mound burial grounds from the 9th-10th century.
