LOCATION
The Jasmund National Park is located on the island of Rügen (Rugia) in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. This national park in the north-east of Germany is located directly on the Baltic Sea. The area has a size of 3.100 ha, which is divided in 2.400h a land mass and 700 ha water surface. Therefore, Jasmund is the smallest national park in Germany. Near the protected area are the town of Sassnitz and the village Lohme. There are only a few small villages within the national park.

SCENIC CHARACTER
The Jasmund National Park is unique in Germany. There are two important landmarks in the reserve. First the chalk cliffs on the coast with the cliff 118 m high cliff “Königsstuhl”. The chalk cliffs are up to 161 m high and 500 m long, they are made of chalk lime and wooded at the top. The cliffs are subject to constant erosion. This means that not every area of the beach is accessible.
The second landmark in the national park is the most valuable old beech forests in Germany. Since 2011 the forest has been a UNSECO World Heritage Site.
ATTRACTIONS
The National Park is a great attraction for nature lovers and active holidaymakers. In the unique and protected beech forest, hiking and cycling tours are possible. The forest itself is a great attraction. There are also viewpoints (Viktoriasicht, Königsstuhl, Hohes Ufer, Ernst-Moritz-Arndt View) of the coastal zones and the Baltic Sea.
The “Königsstuhl” National Park Centre is located on top of the chalk cliffs. There is a 2.000 square meter exhibition, a multi-vision cinema, a viewing platform and an adventure course in the outdoor area.
The Centre provides a comprehensive overview of the geological history of the area and its natural features.
