ATTRACTIONS

The castle and the church stood on the tip of peninsula in the 14th century, but they have not survived. The wooden lighthouse built in 19th century was destroyed by storms and water. Another brick lighthouse, also built in 19th century operates till today, and is state protected technical monument (it’s possible to get on top of it).

Ventės ragas is an important place for migrating birds. Ever since 1929, a bird ringing station operates there. It has the biggest bird trap in the world (60 m wide, 25 m high) and modern ‘zigzag’ bird trap. In a nearby located modern museum visitors are introduced to bird ringing history, bird migration research and unique world of Nemunas delta’s birds.
