LOCATION

Malbork Castle is located on a hill above the Nogat River, 40 km on south-east of Gdansk, in Pomerania Voivodship. You can reach Malbork by tains from Warsaw, Gdańsk, Cracow, Kołobrzeg, Rzeszów, Gdynia, Torun, Kielce, Lublin and Koszalin. It takes 15 minutes to walk from the railway station to the castle. There are also direct buses from such cities as Braniewo, Bydgoszcz, Dzierzgon, Elblag, Gdansk, Ilawa, Krynica Morska, Kwidzyn, Olsztyn, Plock and Tczew. 54°02’N 19°01’E

Malbork Castle is located in the north of Poland, on the east bank of the River Nogat. It is the most complete and elaborate example of a Gothic brick-built castle complex in the characteristic style of the Teutonic Order. It was built by the Teutonic Knights – order of German crusaders, in the 13th century. Historically known as Marienburg. Malbork Castle was substantially enlarged and embellished after 1309, when the seat of the Grand Master moved here from Venice. Then the Castle fell into decay but in 19th and early 20th centuries was meticulously restored. Following severe damage in the Second World War it was once again restored, using the detailed documentation prepared by earlier conservators. Malbork Castle was also the residence of Polish kings. Since 1997 the object is inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage Site.Gothic walls of the fortress of Malbork exceeds every year nearly half a million tourists from around the world.
