1. Blekinge Län – Mörrum River

LOCATION

With a total of 3055km² the historic province of Blekinge is a smaller *(the smallest OR one of the smallest OR smaller than… OR small) province in Sweden. Blekinge Län, located in southern Sweden, borders Småland to the north, the Baltic Sea to the east and south and the province of Skåne to the west. Blekinge also has an archipelago of countless small islands to the south. The coast is very rugged and has many picturesque bays. The capital of the province is Karlskrona. There are also larger towns such as Karlshamn, Ronneby, Olofström and Sölvesborg. Of particular note, the Mörrum river (Mörrumsån) flows through this region.

SCENIC CHARACTER

The county of Blekinge has many lakes and rivers rich in fish. The region is known for its large salmon population. The landscape is characterized by many fields and coniferous or beech forests. There is a lot of agriculture in this part of Sweden. The beautiful and historic coastal towns of Karlskrona and Karlshamn are listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites and well worth a visit. The archipelago, with its particularly beautiful white beaches, should not be missed either.

ATTRACTIONS

This region offers a great variety of special attractions: the forests, rivers, lakes and the beautiful coastline inspire you to go hiking. The region, especially by the river Mörrumsån, is also very popular with anglers. A relaxing time on the mostly uninhabited islands of the archipelago is only a short boat ride away.

In addition to beautiful nature surrounding Blekinge, the historic towns of Karlskrona and Karlshamn are worth seeing. In Karlskrona you can find the Blekinge Museum, the ‘Admiralskirche’ and the naval harbour, as well as the bastion as a world cultural heritage. Karlshamn has a beautiful historical quarter with traditional wooden houses. There is also a number of small fishing villages with old harbours and great restaurants in the region.
