ATTRACTIONS

Besides the main attraction – the broad, fine sand beach free of any stones – there is a variety of sightseeing opportunities and activities available in Binz. Most well-known is the so-called “resort architecture” which is characteristic of spas on the German Baltic coast. Furthermore there is an art mile, the hunting lodge in Granitz and the Galileo World of Knowledge, which is particularly exciting for children. Another historical sight is Prora, a monumental 2.5 km- long building that shows the history of national socialism and the GDR period that followed. The Prora Documentation Centre, the “KulturKunststatt” and the Railway & Technology Museum are located here. There is also a treetop path with a magnificent view over the entire region. Binz hosts a large number of cultural and sporting events every year, such as the “Störtebeker” Festival (very close to Binz), summer concerts, the IronMan of Rugia, the Baltic Sea swimming contest and the national beach volleyball championships. There are also many hiking and cycling routes around Binz; several playgrounds and adventure areas focus on children.
