LOCATION
Kalmar is a city situated by the Kalmar Strait (the Baltic Sea). It is communicated with main Swedish cities by roads and by rail. There is the Öland Bridge – the road bridge that connects Kalmar to the Swedish island Öland. Kalmar has an international airport. The city is the capital of the Swedish Kalmar County, 56°40′N 16°22′E.

The city that has the oldest known city seal in Scandinavia has one of the most popular harbour in Sweden. The city centre is located on its own island (Kvarnholmen).A marvellous trip around the island on a sightseeing boat will help you with discovering this old city. Besides in every scrap of the city you are close to the sea. While walking through the Old Town (the medieval city centre) you are observing original well-preserved 17th– and 18th-century colourful buildings. You may stop at the “kiss stop” and admire the Kalmar Castle that was rebuilt in the style of a renaissance palace from the 16thcentury.

There are lots of bars, cafes, restaurants, pubs, shops with locally produced food and a tourist information centre. The city is also a good place for shopping where you will find well-known chains and shops with products nowhere else found. Kalmar offers plenty of activities – running, cycling, horse riding, hiking, kayaking, fishing, tennis or golf. A car park for mobile homes is also available.
