LOCATION

The ruin of the Dargun Palace is located in a small market town, called Dargun, with just 4.400 inhabitants. Dargun belongs to the district of Mecklenburgische Seenplatte.

HISTORY AND SCENIC CHARACTER

First a Cistercian monastery was founded in 1172, then in 1552 secularised by a duke and converted into Palace with Renaissance style. This Palace burnt down in the 17th century, but was rebuilt again. At the end of World War II it burnt down again and only ruins are left. Since 1994 some repairs happen.

ATTRACTIONS

The palace area offers today a large park, a shop, a small museum and a pavilion where people can marry.

By climbing up 92 stairs you reach a viewing platform which provides a beautiful panoramic sight on the ruins of the monestary, the monestary lake and the town.

There is also a beautiful lake for swimming in summer time and a brewery which offers guided tours.
