HISTORY AND SCENIC CHARACTER

In 1882 a small platform with a restaurant was built and in 1898 a 170m long pier was constructed. The build-ups were connected in 1905 and later on roofed with canvas and 1930 with a wooden roof, completing todays’ shape. In 1970-73 a major reconstruction replaced the wooden pillars with steel girders and in 1986 the building was reconstructed. The pier was again completely renewed in 1993/94 and is now 280 m long.

ATTRACTIONS

On a platform above the beach is a restaurant, which represents the well-known landmark of the resort Ahlbeck as well as of the entire island Usedom. In front of the restaurant the pier leads 280 m into the Baltic Sea. At the end of the pier is a jetty for small boats for sightseeing tours.

The resort Ahlbeck shows many villas with the typical spa architecture style.

The promenade (seafront) is connected with neighbouring resorts – also crossing the national border to Poland – as far as Swinoujscie (PL). This is the longest seafront in Europe. At the border a symbolic boundary mark shows people the open-border situation of European countries.
