ATTRACTIONS

In 1945, as a result of the German-Polish battles, almost all of Kołobrzeg city, including its Old Town, was destroyed. The Old City was rebuilt creating a new district called the New Old Town. Newly constructed buildings have been incorporated into the old ones, which creates an interesting effect. The Old Town in Kołobrzeg is characterized by compact buildings and narrow streets between which the tenements stand. Practically there are no open spaces and the monumental concathedral basilica dominates the whole. During visiting the city, it is worth to take a walk along the Dubois street, which is one of the oldest streets in Kołobrzeg. Its arched character suggests that it led along the old defensive walls of the city. At the end of the street there is a Gunpowder Tower, also known as the Lontowa Tower – it is the only preserved building from the Middle Ages which is part of the city’s defense system. On the Old Town streets there are many cafes and restaurations.
