18. Ustka

LOCATION

Ustka is a town in the Pomeranian Voivodeship, in the northern part of Poland, with the population of 16,000. This charming place is a port city, a spa and a sea resort located on the Słowiński Coast, at the mouth of the Słupia River which flows into the Baltic Sea.

SCENIC CHARACTER

Ustka is located close to Słowiński National Park. The town’s beach is divided into two parts by the mouth of Słupia River: the western half is appreciated by tourists who look for peace and quiet; the eastern half, with its boulevard, restaurants, bars and beautiful promenade is appreciated by tourists looking for a more lively and sociable time. Here, visitors can walk through the unique, world-famous movable dunes and scented pine trees.

ATTRACTIONS

Tourists can go for walks by the seaside, enjoy water sports and biking. There are also many walking and hiking trails. The port in Ustka was built in the 19th century on the foundations of breakwaters dating back to the 16th century. Nowadays it handles mostly fishing boats, yachts and tourist boats. There is a famous lighthouse in town, built in 1892 – its light is visible from 30km away. It is open to visitors in the summer. The town’s red brick granaries are also worth seeing. Fishing tours are organized here and catching cod is almost guaranteed. To top this all off, Ustka operates the largest fish auction in Pomorskie Voivodeship.
