SCENIC CHARACTER
SCENIC CHARACTER
Kamień Pomorski is one of the oldest and most important cities of West Pomerania. In the past, the city was the capital of the Pomeranian Duchy and the capital of the bishopric. The history of the past is confirmed by well-preserved monuments. The most important object on the Griffins Route is the cathedral complex (Historical Monument). There is a Romanesque-Gothic cathedral with a unique patio. The cathedral, whose origins date back to the Christianization mission of Otto von Bamberg (in 12th century), after the takeover of the Reformation, went under the rule of the Pomeranian dukes, who were also ranked as bishops. The last of them was Boguslaw Ernest de Croy, nephew of Bogusław XIV, the last prince of the Griffin dynasty. He, as the heir of the prince’s family, funded the equipment of the cathedral, among others high-class artistic Baroque organs, whose appearance and sound can be admired even today.
