ATTRACTIONS

This is an unique water route as most of it continues alongside Naglis Nature Reserve where it is forbidden to walk. At the beginning of the trip you will sail beside and see the old Pervalka lighthouse, get around the Horse’s horn and surrounded by the beautiful sights of the Dead dunes you will reach the Naglis horn where you will stop for lunch. Then take along the legendary Drimzakas bay and bypassing the Sheep’s Heel horn you will see the largest colony in the Europe of Grey Herons and Cormorants: here breeds over 3,000 pairs of these birds. The trip ends in Juodkrantė. Return to Nida/Klaipėda by bus.

The name of Valley of Death was connected with the events of 1870-1872, when a French camp of several thousand prisoners of war was established in here. Due to the poor conditions in prisons, exhaustion and illness, many prisoners died. They were buried at the nearby camp cemetery, hence the valley is named after it. In summer of 2018, a sculpture was unveiled in memorial of these prisoners. Author of artistic composition – sculptor Kęstutis Musteikis. The sculpture – bench with a bird – was built in a place, from where the panorama of the Valley of Death opens up.
