20. GDAŃSK BAY SURFING HOTSPOTS

LOCATION

Gdansk Bay’s surfing hotspots include Chałupy-Kuźnica, Jastania and Rewa. They are all located in the sheltered part of Gdansk Bay, very close to the Tricity area (Gdańsk-Sopot-Gdynia) in the Pomerania region of Poland. Rewa beach is the closest hotspot to Gdansk but all of them are easily accessible by roads and public transport. There are bus routes and local trains to all of these locations from Gdynia. The Tricity area is easily reached by ferry from Sweden (Karlskrona-Gdynia and Nyneshamn – Gdańsk). There is an international airport in Gdansk, which has many connections. Rewa Beach’s geographical location is 54°38′N 18°31′E.

GDAŃSK BAY SURFING HOTSPOTS

Gdansk Bay’s surfing hotspots are located between the Polish mainland and Hel Peninsula – an area not really considered as open sea. Three of the spots are located at the peninsula: Chałupy, Kuźnica and Jastarnia, while Rewa is located on the mainland. The waters of Gdansk Bay are relatively shallow and create very good conditions for beginners and kitesurfing schools. Despite the bay’s waters being exposed to the open sea, they maintain their higher temperatures. Different winds blow in the bay with Chałupy – Kuźnice – Jastarnia having a much calmer character than Rewa. All locations are busy in the high season, but the sheer length of the coast guarantees that there is enough space for all kinds of surfers, even in summer. It should be noted that all kitesurfing spots are located away from the main beaches.

ATTRACTIONS

Hel Peninsula is a fashionable summer holiday location and attracts tourists not only from Poland but also from abroad. Rewa is located in a close proximity to Tricity. Easily accessible public transport connects Hel Peninsula with the mainland and allows for short breaks or day trips to Gdansk, Gdynia or Sopot. The Tricity area offers numerous places of interest and sightseeing attractions, to name just a few: the Solidarity Museum, WW2 Museum, Marine Museums, the historical Old Town district in Gdansk and the relaxing resort of Sopot. Gdynia, the youngest of the three cities, has a broad promenade, a pier in Orłowo, many biking routes and some fashionable theatres (including The Music Theatre).
