13. Wolinski National Park

LOCATION

Wolinski National Park is located in the north western Poland, at the mouth of Oder River.It is situated on the Wolin Island and protects its highly valuable part. Baltic Sea Waters surrounding and the archipelago of coastal islands made Wolinski National Park the first maritime park in Poland. MiędzyzdrojeGPS53°93′N 14°45′E

SCENIC CHARACTER

Wolinski National Park was established in 1960. It covers the area of 10937 ha of cliffs, post-glacial lakes (Warnowskie, Rabiąż, Czajdze, Domysłowskie), artificial lakes (Turquoise and StaraKredownia), rare species of plants, charming sandy beaches, swampy islands and forests of oak, beech and pine trees. Wolinski National Park landscape is constantly evolving due to erosion. Visitors should not hesitate to visit the park, because the magnificent cliffs recede about 80 cm every year.

ATTRACTIONS

The biggest attraction and a symbol of Wolinski National Park is the white-tailed eagle. Dolphins, harbor purpoises and grey seals can be seen in this area. There are nearly 230 species of birds, that can be observed in the Park due to the location on the main migration path along the coast of the Baltic Sea. Tourists can hike and climb the cliffs. There are many walking trails and didactic trails, viewpoints and rest areas. Picturesque delta of Swina River can be watched from Zielonka Hill. Slavs and Vikings Festival is organized at the turn of July and August in Wolin.
