2. National Park Stenshuvud

LOCATION

The Stenshuvud National Park is located in southern Sweden near the town of Kivik and 15km north of the city of Simrishamn. The park is relatively small with a size of 3.9km². It is part of historic province of Skåne. The park belongs to the municipality Simrishamn. Furthermore, the national park is located directly at the Baltic Sea.

SCENIC CHARACTER

The beautiful park has a varied landscape. The many oak and beech forests characterize the area. There are wonderful white sandy beaches at Hanö Bay. Directly at the water is a moor with hornbeams and some wild orchids. The 97m high rock Stenshuvud towers directly at the coast over the national park. It is also the eponym of the park.  A special characteristic of the area is the diverse flora and fauna as well as the great view of the Baltic Sea.

ATTRACTIONS

The varied landscape is perfect for hiking, climbing and relaxing. There are numerous hiking trails and some of them are also suitable for children and wheelchairs. A big attraction at the main entrance is the Naturum. The visitor centre has an exhibition about the natural environment, geology and history of the small national park. In addition, the mountain ‘Stenshuvud’ is a special attraction and a great vantage point for the whole area. If the weather is good, you can see the island of Bornholm.
