LOCATION

The Müritz National Park was founded in 1990 protect the typical Mecklenburg forest and lake landscape in the northern part of Germany in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, GPS 53°38′N 13°00′E.

ATRACTION DESCRIPTION

The park consists of two areas Müritz and Serrahn. The total area of the park is 318 km2. There are many lakes and bogs, that make the park a very unique. The Müritz National Park is the largest forest national park in Germany. There are over 400 moors in the park, the largest are the Röbelsche and Specker Wold on the east bank of the Müritz. They are nearly 6 km2 large. The majority of trees are pine forests, there are also beech forests (in Serrahn – very valuable and old. There are many notable animals living in the park: red deers, cranes, white-tailed eagle, osprey, great bitternreed warblerredshankgreenshankblack storkcranetealgarganey and little stint.
