HISTORY AND SCENIC CHARACTER

1891-1893 was a wooden pier constructed in front of the settlement of Heringsdorf, which was at those days already a well-known seaside resort. Ten years later the 400 m long pier was extended to 500 m. After World War II the pier and its beautiful and impressive buildings deteriorated and in 1958 a fire destroyed the entrance pavilion.

1995 a new pier – 50 m beside the historic one – was opened with a total length of 508 m which was the longest in Europe in those days.

ATTRACTIONS

The pier offers today a beautiful restaurant with a pyramidal roof in front at the Baltic Sea. Aside is a jetty for small boats for sightseeing tours to neighbouring resorts. About 300 m of the pier are roofed. At the entrance are buildings containing a shopping mall, restaurants and holiday flats.

On the promenade beside the pier you can use the “größten Strandkorb der Welt” (world biggest beach chair) which is well-known due to usage at “g8 summit” which happened in Heiligendamm/Germany (2007).

The resort Heringsdorf shows many villas with the typical spa architecture style and is part of the German-Polish cross-border promenade.

Since 2015 the forest surrounding Heringsdorf is named Europe’s first certified “Kur- und Heilwald” (“cure and healing forest”).
