LOCATION

Hel is a town in the northern Poland. It is situated at the farthest point of Hel Peninsula 54°36′42″N 18°48′29″E. If you want to get there, you should travel to Tricity at first. There is an airport in Gdańsk. You can take Pendolino train as well. Then you can take a local train or a ferry from Gdańsk of Gdynia. Despite the good public transport, many tourists decide to drive their own car, which isn’t good idea because of the traffic.

SCENIC CHARACTER

Hel is a special place. The town is surrounded by sea on three sides. It is situated at the farthest point of Hel Penisula, therefore when you travel to Hel by train or by car you can see the shore in both sides of the road (or a railroad). When you are in the town, you have a feeling that no matter which way you go, you will reach a seashore. Historically speaking Hell was important outpost of polish military. As a result of that there are many fortifications interesting for World War II fans.

ATTRACTIONS

The best known attraction of Hel is the famous Seal Center. It is a research facility of University of Gdańsk, where scientists work to reestablish seals population, but also a marine sea aquarium when tourist can watch seals from very close perspective. The best place to watch panorama is a lighthouse, which is over 40 meters high. An interesting event in Hel is D-day celebration. Every august Hel turn into Normandy beach and tourists may witness historical reenactments of World War II battles.
