ATTRACTIONS

The first castle in Świdwin was created from the Margrave of Brandenburg from the Assisi dynasty at the end of the 13th century. Built on their assignment, the defensive consisted of a fortified circuit in the form of an irregular trapezoid and a long residential house standing by the northern curtain. The actual owners of the town of Wedłów started raising the proper castrum at the beginning of the 14th century. In 1384, they sold the castle to the Order of the Teutonic Order to the seat of the reeve. The Teutonic Knights made the extension and reconstruction of the original assumption. At the turn of the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries, they dismantled the old residential house, erected the east wing and a large brick building for the headquarters of the village mayor near the northern curtain. At that time, a new gate and a side gate tower were erected. In 1445, the castle was bought by the Brandenburg elector Frederick II. At the beginning of the 16th century, the gate was rebuilt.

From 1540, the castle was used by the Order of Saint John. In the eighteenth century, baroque and reconstruction and extension of the facility were carried out. Two new wings were erected and the courtyard was finally closed. In 1808, the Order of Saint John commandery in Świdwin was liquidated, and the castle became the property of the Prussian government. It was designated as the seat of offices.

After 1945, the castle was devastated and then burned down. It was rebuilt in 1962-1968. Currently, it is used by a cultural center.
