7. SODERASENS NATIONAL PARK

LOCATION

Klippan and Svalöv Municipalities, Skåne County. Söderåsen National Park is 40 kilometres east of Helsingborg in Skåne.

Söderåsen National Park was formed in 2001 and covers 1,625 hectares. The nature is varied, featuring lush, deciduous forests, impressive talus slopes with high cliffs, flowing streams and panoramic views. The long, deep fissure valley by Skäralid is especially frequented. It’s a rift valley of immense scope with perpendicular cliffs that surround the Skärån river running along the bottom. Other impressive sites are Odensjön lake in the Nackarpsdalen valley as well as the vantage points of Kopparhatten, Hjortsprånget and Lierna along the Skäralidsdalen valley. Naturum’s activities include information for visitors, exhibits and guided tours, various programme activities as well as development of maps, signs, brochures and fact sheets. Common species such as fallow deer and badgers are present, but polecats, ermines, wild boars and bats are represented just as well among the park’s mammals. Birds that breed in the area are e.g. the stock dove, hawfinch, long-tailed tit, grey wagtail, lesser spotted woodpecker, honey buzzard and goshawk. There is an exciting ongoing project, which involves an establishment of new living quarters for eagles in the national park. Of the various groups of fauna, insects are the most multifaceted. Here you will find unique species such as the large black longhorn beetle, darkling beetle, tineid moth and Lamprotes c-aureum, a moth of the Noctuidae family. Many of the species are associated with dead wood. There are several beautiful spots and places that are worth a visit in Söderåsen nationalpark: 1) One of the most visited sights is the deep cut valley Skäralid. It’s a rift valley that’s 90m deep and several kilometers long with a small stream (Skärån) flowing at the bottom.2) Odensjön in Nackarpsdalen in the south and the viewpoints Kopparhatten, Hjortspåret and Lierna at Skäralid are also worth a visit. There are BBQ sites at Odensjön in Röstånga as well as at the Liagården and Dahlbergs rest hostels. BBQ grate and wood are available.
