ATRACTION DESCRIPTION

Granitz Hunting Lodge  is the most popular castle in Mecklenburg-Vorpommernwith ca 200.000 visitors every year. The hunting Lodge is located in the middle of Granitz ridge, forested area that has been a part of the Southeast Rügen Biosphere Reserve since 1991. This well-known architectural monument is an impressive observation point. From the deck of central (one of four) tower tourists can enjoy a beautiful view over large parts of the island of Rügen, and in favorable weather even to Stralsund and Greifswald.

The haunting Lodge was built between the years 1837 and 1846 of bricks according to the plans of the architect Johann Gottfried Steinmeyer on behalf of William, Prince Malte I, of Putbus in the North Italian Renaissance style of castles.

The elaborate spiral staircase made of cast iron with 154 levels is a very interesting part of the castle as well as the marble hall.
