LOCATION
The small fishing village Freest is located in the north-east of Germany in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania – on the Achterwasser, a part of the Baltic Sea.The village borders on the villages of Köselin in the south, Lubmin in the west and the Peene River in the east. Not far from the fishing village and in visibility is the island of Usedom. Germany: 54°13′N 13°72′E.
SCENIC CHARACTER
As one of the oldest fishing villages in Germany, it has a unique atmosphere. The village is surrounded by woods, meadows, the Baltic Sea and the beach. Freest has a new marina and a redesigned fishing port. Itis very quiet and idyllic. The maritime flair of the village, the fishermen at work invite you to visit.
ATTRACTIONS
A special attraction of Freest is the harbor and the old boatyard. In Freest you can watch the fishermen at work and buy freshly caught fish. Another attraction is the „Heimatstube“, opened in 1992. The museum presents the history of the town and the region in a permanent exhibition. The best known exhibits are the Freest Fishing Carpets. They tell the story of Freest with traditional patterns. Every year in August the fishing festival takes place in Freest. There you can taste regional food, especially fresh fish. There is also a small market, a Ferris wheel and music.
