LOCATION
Scandinavia’s largest wildlife park and nature reserve – Eriksberg Wildlife Park – is located in Blekinge in southeastern Sweden, outside Åryd in Karlshamn. It is a part of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Blekinge Archipelago and Natura 2000. GPS location 56°18′N 15°E.
SCENIC CHARACTER
Eriksberg Wildlife Reserve is a magical rocky landscape of oak and dense beech forests and pine trees, which consists of more than 1340 hectares (of which 409 hectares of water). It is a fabulous and mysterious place rich in bird life and one of the world’s largest population of the protected red water lily. Wildlife Park was started in 1938 when Bengt Berg, nature photographer and zoologist, bought Eriksberg area and fenced in to research the Red deer. Since then, the facility has been a centre for wild animals.
ATTRACTIONS
Visitors can go on safari and observe wild animals in their natural environment. There are red deers, fallow deers, Pere David’s deers, European bisons, wild boars and mouflon sheeps, roaming freely in unique natural surroundings. There is also a local store, which offers locally produced wild products and hard to reach meat from deer, wild boar and elk. To enjoy a really good local meal, there is a restaurant located in the middle of the park
