LOCATION

The Sopot Festival takes place in Sopot. It is a city in the Pomeranian Voivodeship in Poland and is communicated with main Polish cities by roads and railways. It lies between Gdańsk and Gdynia. 54°26′N 18°33′E.

ATTRACTION DESCRIPTION

The Sopot International Song Festival is a festival that takes place in the Forest Opera in Sopot and is one of the biggest song festivals in Europe. The first Sopot Festival was organized in 1961 by Władysław Szpilman – an outstanding composer, pianist and arranger. Many famous foreign singers (Bryan Adams, Charles Aznavour, Boney M., Whitney Houston, Elton John, Annie Lenox, Tina Turner and many others) performed at the festival. Initially, in the years 1961-1963 festivals took place in the Gdańsk Shipyard hall and then moved to the Forest Opera in Sopot, a charming place liked by artists. The Amber Nightingale has been the main festival prize.
