LOCATION

Hammershus is located at the north of Bornholm island. It’s not that easy to get, because the ruins are outside the city. The easiest way is to go by car. There is a paid parking provided (30DKK for 6 hours) Its good idea to download „easypark” smartphone app. Denmark is well known of its bicycle paths. In order to visit Hammershus you should choose route 1 from Rønne to Sandvig. It is also possible to go by bus. You should choose line 7 from Nexø or line 1, 2, 7 from Rønne. 55°16′15″N 14°45′19″E

ATRACTION DESCRIPTION

Hammershus is one of the best-known attractions of Bornholm. It is the largest medieval castle in Denmark, and probably in whole Northern Europe. It was built in XIII century by the bishop, who fought with Danish king. The castle gave him the military advantage, and become the main fortification of the island. Nowadays Hammershus is a great idea for a one day walking trip. The whole area is huge and the view is amazing. There are bridges, defensive walls, a tower, and everything on the edge of the cliff. The entrance is free of charge.
