LOCATION

Vistula Delta is an area in the northern part of Poland around the mouth of the Vistula River. It stretches from Gdańsk on the west to Elblag on the east and covers about 1,700 square kilometers, of which more than 400 are located below the sea level. Both Gdańsk and Elbląg have good trains connection with main polish cities. Gdańsk is well communicated with central Poland with motorway A1 and other fast roads.

ATTRACTIONS

This area owes its unique character to the fact that it is almost completely flat, what is unusual in Poland. Variegated swathes of fields stretch into infinity.Beautifully situated Mennonite cemeteries are a sign of a presence of newcomers from the Netherlands. The agricultural character of Vistula Delta is emphasized by small villages built on a plan of a Teutonic Order village. Due to its location below the sea level the area is often flooded. To manage the excess water a system of channels has been built as well as embankments and field drains. Among the monuments of Vistula Delta there are picturesque churches with a characteristic wooden towers and arcaded wooden houses. While being around it is also worth exploring tourist attractions like a ride on a historic narrow-gauge train, cruise on the Vistula Delta Loop – a touristic rout consisting of rivers and canals or visit Vistula Delta Historical Park.
