LOCATION

Bornholm Island has go a network of biking routes including coastal routes, inland routes and even mountain shaped rough routes. The participants of Windsurfing Exploration Route are proposed to try a biking trail in the eastern and northern part of the island, close to surfing spots (e.g. Balka beach or the Dueodde Strand). Bornholm island can be accessed either on the ferry from Ystad (Sweden) Køge (Zealand, Denmark)  and Sassnitz (Germany, Rügen Island). In summertime there are direct ferries from Świnoujście (Poland).  In Rønnethere is also a small airport which service flights to Copenhagen. Geographical location of the Bornholm Island capital Rønneis:  55°06′N 14°42′E.

BIKING ADVENTURE

There is not extensive cars traffic what makes easy to use all roads for biking. The proposed biking route for one day bike trip will start in Dueodde, proceed to  Snogebæk (fishermen village and harbor), next through Balka to Nexø(port town),  Årsdale (windmills village) to Svaneke (which has got a historical district in the town). The route back will go through natural areas of Bornholm to Almindingen, Åkirkeby, Sømarken back to Dueodde. The trip together is around 50-60 km depending on the selected options and allows to learn both inland and coastal areas of Eastern Bornholm. Bikers should not expect significant traffic, for many kilometers they can be the only bikers  on the route.

ATTRACTIONS

Bornholm Island contains plenty of attractions which may enrich biking vacations by other activities. They include such activities as wind and kite surfing, kayaking, hiking, birds observation, nature sightseeing in reserves. The island has got a couple of interesting museums, historical ruins, churches, windmills. Bornholm is always associated with picturesque small towns and villages, including fishermen villages and harbors. Some palaces look like from the middle ages. The island is not industrialized what creates good conditions for calm relaxation. The island is surrounded by diversified coasts with broad beaches domination in the East and more steep coasts in the West.
