LOCATION

Kretinga and Plungė towns are connected by highway A11 and have good railway and bus connection with other cities in Lithuania.

SCENIC CHARACTER

Kretinga is one of the oldest settlements in Lithuania, also called the Franciscan capital due to 5 established monasteries here. Kretinga district is famous not only for the abundance and diversity of cultural heritage objects, but also for its unique countryside – manors, mythological places, bridges, mills, monuments, and unique homesteads. The old territory of Kretinga town (31.3 ha) is a monument of archeology and urbanism because the city’s central part is constructed in a rectangular plan. There are many rivers, lakes, ponds in the area, very suitable for active recreation – kayaking and fishing.

Plungė town is another picturesque town to stop for its famous landmark – Plungė estate and park ensemble which houses the Samogitian Art Museum, manor buildings, the neo-gothic stables, the horse stables, and the exposition of the ancient folk art. Admire the legendary and natural monument, the “Thunder oak”, growing in the central part of the park. The region is also full of rivers, lakes, ponds and holds the Samogitian national park.

ATTRACTIONS

Visit Kretinga museum with Winter Garden, holding nearly 600 different plants from the entire world, stay for lovely break inside the gardens at the restaurant „Pas Grafą”, and walk around in the park which is full of round the ponds, Stone of Love and Astronomic Calendar with the Sundial.

A canoe trip in Kretinga district also offers many trails of covering scenic landscapes and breathtaking views.

Visit Manor state and park ensemble in Plungė and Samogitian national park where you may stay in Plateliai for water sports, scuba-diving activities.
