LOCATION

Schlemmin Castle is a Victorian Gothic manor house, located in Schlemmin in the north part of Germany. 53°43′N 12°16′E.

ATRACTION DESCRIPTION

It was built in the middle of XIX th century, designed by architect and builder Eduard Knoblauch. The construction had been commissioned by Wilhelm Ulrich von Thun, whose family was based in Western Pomerania and Mecklenburg. During World War II, the castle was used as a hospital. The municipality of Schlemmin acquired ownership of the castle in 1991. In the end of XX th century it was bought by an entrepreneur from Bremen Horst Sander, who restored the building and transformed it to a hotel. A castle ark, that occupies the area of 23 hectare is full of 800-year-old oaks. There is a charming avenue of linden trees, fruit and herb garden.
