ATTRACTIONS

Castle in Darłowo is the only seaside gothic castle in Poland built on a plan similar to a square with a 24-meter high tower. The foundation of the castle dates back to the second half of the 14th century. It was the period of the reign of Duke Bogusław V and Elżbieta, the daughter of Casimir the Great. In 1352, the prince purchased from Elżbieta von Behr – an island with a mill, with a view to building a stronghold on it. The years 1352-1372 were the time of fast-progressing construction works. During this twentieth century, the castle grew on the island, which in its main outline survived to this day. The Castle was such a representative object that in 1372 in its walls took place a meeting of Pomeranian dukes. In the Prussian times, the castle served partly as a warehouse and fell into ruin. At the end of the thirties of the twentieth century in the Castle created a regional museum which functions to this day.
