LOCATION

Gdańsk is a city located at the mouth of the Motława River, on the southern edge of the Bay of Gdańsk. It is communicated with main Polish cities by roads and railways. Available also from the sea. There is an airport. The city is the capital of the Pomeranian Voivodeship in Poland, 54°22′N 18°38′E.

SCENIC CHARACTER

The biggest city of the Tri-City (Gdańsk, Sopot and Gdynia), likely founded in 997, a member of the Hanseatic League, destroyed in the Second World War and then rebuilt became one of the most beautiful port cities in Europe. Most attractions are located along Długa Street and Długi Targ. This part of the city is called the Royal Route and it starts from the Highland Gate and ends at the Green Gate. There are many picturesque tenements, the Golden Gate with its figures symbolizing citizen’s qualities, the Main Town Hall, Artus’ Court and Neptune’s Fountain along the Royal Route. There is a medieval port crane on the Motława River. Gdańsk has many historical churches, e.g.: St Bridget’s, St Catherina’s and St Mary’s – the largest brick church in Europe.

ATTRACTIONS

Długie Pobrzeże Street along the Motława River and the Old Town are full of restaurants, cafes and bars. Several tourist information centres. Many places to stay, also situated by the sea. Gdańsk hosts St Dominic’s Fair that dates back to the 13thcentury. The European Solidarity Centre with an exhibition about the history of “Solidarność” is popular. Besides, many kilometres of sandy beaches.
