ATRACTION DESCRIPTION

There are four famous romanesque style round churches in Bornholm: Nylars Kirke, Ols Kirke, Ny Kirke, Østerlars Kirke. Ols Kirke, named after Olaf II king of Norway, is the slimmest of all four. It was erected in XII century. It served two purposes: religious and defensive. Like most medieval sacral buildings located in small settlements it was an enclave where all the villagers gathered in case of attack. Therefore there are nine small windows in the tower. Those are archery positions. The most famous piece of art is a ceramic sculpture located on the altar. It presents three women praying in front of a grave of Jesus Christ.
