ATTRACTIONS
The “Alter Garten” is one of the most beautiful and impressive squares in Schwerin. It is situated opposite the palace island and used to be the ducal fruit and vegetable garden. The prestigious buildings surrounding the square were all added in the 19th century: The State Theatre of Mecklenburg, the State Museum, the Old Palais and the ancient-looking “Kollegiengebäude”, which today houses the State Chancellery of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Every summer the Open Air Opera Festival is staged on the “Alter Garten” square, against the marvellous backdrop of the Palace, the museum and the lake “Schweriner See”.
