LOCATION

Molli” is the nickname of a historic steam-powered locomotive. It drives regularly from the seaside resort Kühlungsborn via Heiligendamm to Bad Doberan.

It is one of the most popular tourist attractions in this region west of the Hanseatic city of Rostock.

1. Molli Railway

HISTORY AND SCENIC CHARACTER

In 1886 the railway started on a length of 6.6 km between Bad Doberan and Heiligendamm and was extended 1910 to Kühlungsborn. In 1969 goods services were withdrawn as this form of transport was no longer competitive. Today a public-private company is operating the railway and serves within the public transport system of the region this line regularly.

ATTRACTIONS

This historic railway is well-known due to its official means of transport for representatives of the press during the G8 summit in Heiligendamm (2007).

It is a narrow-gauge (900 mm) steam-powered railway, running 15 km – long distance parallel to the coastline of the Baltic Sea. The trip takes about 40 minutes.
